Pedorthic Education
Effective January 1, 2009, the approval of pre-certification courses for the profession of pedorthics will be under the organizational umbrella of the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE). The Commission on Accreditation of Pedorthic Education (CAPE) dissolved as a corporation and will now function as a committee under NCOPE. All previously accredited CAPE programs are now NCOPE approved.
- Definition of the Pedorthic Profession:
- A pedorthist is a health care professional who is specifically educated and trained to manage comprehensive pedorthic patient care. This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. A pedorthist fits, fabricates, adjusts or modifies pedorthic devices.
