Regional Residency Liaisons
The Regional Residency Liaisons were assembled in 2002. The commission recognized the need to provide support to all of the residency programs and residents participating in the residency program. The RRN is used to distribute information, provide assistance, monitor the resident's progress, and report issues of concern to NCOPE with the residency sites within their respective regions. The Network Directors are ABC-certified individuals that were educated and trained under the current residency system.
NCOPE believes the advantages of this program are as follows:
- Creates link between NCOPE and the local "grass roots" residency programs
- Helps with defining what the expectations are for the resident, residency director, and residency site
- Allows for a feedback mechanism for residents who are in a situation that may potentially become problematic (buffer between the residency director and the resident)
- Monitor the progress of the resident
- Ability to notify residency directors in a timely manner when quarterly reports, research proposals and final projects are due
